Sasadango is a traditional sweet local to the Niigata region. During this experience, you can make your own sasadango, and eat it once it’s ready. Together, let’s have fun and enjoy the beautiful views of the garden when we’re done!

Sasadango Making Experience
- The experience is taught by Mrs. Sugisaki, the owner of a local restaurant who knows all about the ingredients and cooking methods of this region.
- Bamboo leaves – or ‘sasa’, where sasadango gets its name - have long been used in different methods for their natural ability to kill bacteria. Many of the ingredients used are prepared locally, such as the mochi flour used to make the dango, and the adzuki beans used to make the bean paste.
- The venue for this experience is a museum in the center of town. It is a traditional Japanese building with tatami mats and a hearth inside. You can also see the Agano River and Mt. Kirin, which are the symbols of the town.
